How to align multiple vertices in Maya?

This is a question that a lot of people may ask when modeling in Maya.
Actually is a very simple process (shouldn't be different!).

Usually I need to align vertices in Maya when I'm modeling objects that will be mirrored and welded. To do this, first I be sure that in Move tool settings under Move Snap Settings I switched off the Retain component spacing option. Afterwards, to align the center vertices to the grid lines, I select and move the points along the X axis, clicking with the middle mouse button on the red manipulator arrow and pressing x to snapping to grid.

At the beginning, when I saw the 11secondclub May competition audio, I didn't like to much about to be a music track. The music is really awesome, but I would like to animate a dialogue this month. One day, driving to work, came an idea. Me and my wife come everyday in same car facing together the daily task of go through the intense São Paulo streets traffic to get to work. She always makeup during the transit. Sometimes I commit some piece of bad driving and disturb her task. Thinking in 11secondclub audio and committing terrible driving mistakes, an idea rise up in my mind and I almost hit the next car. I almost killed my wife and even like that she supported me during the three weeks that I took to finish this animation. My brother Raphael gave me a lot of support and strength along all process too. I was very rusty and uninspired, trying to recover the passion for doing animation that daily work took me off and this two persons pulled me up.

My first attempt was to go deep sketching people going mad at the car wheel. I couldn't let to remember the Goofy motormania, an animation that in 50s describes exactly what we still facing nowadays. I drew a lot of women makeup herself too. Most part of the time in the concept and creative process was figure out how to create a progressive emotion to the driver with a music that already begin rush. The lady reactions came almost for free :), I just digged how she could try to makeup in a jumpy car.

Disney Goofy Motormania.

After a bunch of roughs and sketches, I got some drawings and turned it into an animatic. The camera and the cuts was two tricky parts. They was need to tell to the audience the time elapsed in traffic, to get the progressive driver madness. Besides that, the camera angles and cuts could reduce the amount of animation to delivery the piece at deadline date.

Rush! animatic.

With the animatic done I felt that I could move on. It was funny and told the story, I really could transform my wife into a clown a couple of wheel turns.

The animation process was the most enjoyable step. I already spent a lot of time in planning phase, so I had just one week to animate the short. I used a customized version of Norman Rig. Here my wife was my personal coach and encouraged me to work when I thought about give up. I'm very glad with the 3rd place in competition.

You can watch the animation at 11SecondClub.

Thank you for taking your time here! :D

Middle mouse button on HP Pavilion dv6258se

(HP DV6000 series)

Incredible! After almost freak me out and lose all my hair, I found a web forum that brought a helpful information of how to enable middle mouse button function on my Synaptics TrackPad.

I have a HP Pavilion dv6258se notebook and would like to, sometimes, work with Maya without a necessity of bring with me one hundred gadgets. I'd just want to use a middle mouse function in my TrackPad. After run into thousands useless posts answers (people saying "just use a 3 button mouse" or "my notebook just already have a function enabled with both left and right buttons") I found a tip that almost worked. This article suggest you to use an AutoHotKey script to detect when left and right mouse button are pressed simultaneously. This worked pretty well with Google Chorme, but in Maya this solution wasn't working. I don't know exactly why, but I kept on searching another solution. After several days, I found this reply at and there is a suggestion to create a register key that solves the problem. Ok, I confess that I was totally afraid of to create a register key an make my windows never startup again. After a couple of days looking for more suggestions, I tested this solution and guess what? This register key solution worked to me! Here is:

Goto the run command and enter "regedit" without quotes. Then browse to the following:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Synaptics\SynTP\Defaults\ -- create the key as a DWORD 'HasBothButtonFeature' and set the value to 1.

Log off and login and middle click will start working. It works with any laptop make with synaptics on it.

Fantastic! Now I have a middle mouse button working in my notebook! :D

Ronaldo Fenômeno

I did this caricature after Ronaldo Fenomeno announce his retirement.
Here in Brasil almost everybody is Ronaldo FC (a way to call Ronaldo fans).
I am member of that club too!
Heres is my little tribute. I tried to create an image that referred to 2002 World Cup.

Today I´m very glad to say that this piece was contemplated with a 3d Total Execellence Award and was included into the Gallery section of the May issue of 3DCreative Magazine.

Soon I will publish more details about the process to create this 3d caricature :)

I hope you enjoy! See you soon!

Smell Factory

The illustration concept to this job was about a flying mill that create smells and spear it in the air. The concept was created with my friend Rico Villas Boas, who brought the idea of create a flying smell factory for his client. We choose a wind mill mainly because his visual is very appealing and brings the idea of wind blowing. I brought the air blower bellows and all the perfume cilos, pipes and glass tubes to the concept trying to create a factory ambience. The flowers and the waterfall gave the final touch to the composition.

Here is the last concept art that guided the final result:

An here are some sketches made during the creative process:

The Programmer

The programmers was a illustration that I did at beginning of this year. It was inspired on my brother Raphael and his velocity in typing of thousands and thousands of programming code lines.
First, was a sketch to painting a wall in our office. The wall was musty and old and the painting failed. We painted and reformed the wall and felt that would be a mistake create any noise on a so new and clean surface. It was then I decided to paint it in photoshop.

Here is a sequence with the WIP:

I hope you enjoy! :)

Urgent Needs

Ai que não dar tempo! from Bruno Hamzagic on Vimeo.

What adventure! :)

Just a couple of years after giving my first steps on animation, I think that I was capable of do my first short. The result was a funny animation (in stupids gags, I had a lifetime experience... lol) and poor artistic result. After three weeks I finished the short - at least that's what I told to myself - and sent the work to Animamundi Web 2002. The contest result wasn't so bad, my short was between the twenty shorts selected to appear on festival website and that was all.

This animation was very inspiring to do. Since then, I´m trying to complete a new short but sadly the paid jobs takes all the free time. I think that this animation has a poor execution but, at least, make some people laugh. :)
